The Second Miler
Leading the Way by Following Christ
True Love
Mark 12:30 - And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with
all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first
commandment.

So; just how much do we really love God?  Let’s consider that question, realistically for
a moment.

Ø       How do we react if someone dings our new car by carelessly opening their car
door?  How do we react when people carelessly slam the very basis of our Christian
faith?

Ø       How defensive do we become if our favorite sports team is ridiculed by an
opponent?  How defensive do we become if our Lord is ridiculed by an opponent?

Ø       How does it impact us emotionally when our favorite entertainer dies?
(remember Elvis, or one of the Beatles)  How does it impact us emotionally when a
Christian dies at the hand of a terrorist?

Ø       How do we feel when our investments suddenly lose a great deal of money?
How do we feel when the church is devastated by the fall of a well known Christian
leader?

Ø       How do we act at a ball game when our team and favorite player perform
spectacularly?  How do we act at church when Jesus demonstrates His presence in a
wonderful way?

Perhaps these questions are a bit poignant.  I intended them to be so.  I pray they
cause a real soul-searching episode in our lives.  How can we, as believers who say we
love the Lord, be less responsive to the Lord and things that impact our faith than we
are to the nightly news and the things that impact our economy?  Our God meets our
need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.  CNN, FOX, ABC, CBS, or
MSNBC truly only interrupt our day, upset our peace, continually repeat (a form of
meditation) bad news, and look for the emotionally spectacular that has already
happened.  But our God wants us to perceive, embrace, believe, and see the
supernatural that has yet to occur.  Is your heart more deeply stirred by a Hollywood
love story, or the real-life love story between you and Jesus played out in real time in
the real world?  Just a thought.

Quote for Today – “The same church members who yell like Comanche Indians at a
ball game on Saturday sit like wooden Indians in church on Sunday.”
