The Second Miler
Embrace Their Future for Them
Genesis 17:5 - Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall
be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

What a wonderful demonstration of faith the Father gave us in His encounter with Abram in
which He changed Abram’s name to Abraham! When you consider that demonstration, an Old
Testament action, in the light of God’s New Testament command to be “followers of God as
dear children,” it becomes absolutely awesome in its empowering of the believer today. You
see, the word “followers” in the passage I quoted comes from the Greek word “imitators” or
“mimickers.” And it is easy for us to understand what it means to imitate or mimic someone; to
try and be as much like them as possible, even to the point of having others recognize who it is
we are imitating. Ah, there’s a thought. When is the last time someone accused a Christian of
imitating God?
And what a powerful message the Father’s work is to us today as Christians, as those who
should be the salt of the earth and the light of the world; those who should be the greatest
influencers in the world today! How many people do you know who are falling short of their
God-given potential in life? Regardless of your answer, it is too many. What can we do to
help them, especially if they are under the wrong influence, or simply have not been under the
right kind of influence in their life? The answer is in the example the Lord gave us with His
encounter with Abram.
When God came to Abram, He called Him Abram. But God changed what He was saying in
order to open the door to Abram to change what he was saying. And when they agreed in
what they were saying, the miraculous happened. But it did NOT happen until God first
changed what He was saying. So I ask you; what are you saying about people you know who
are falling short of their potential? Is it possible that if you change what you are saying, that a
door way to faith might be opened that would enable them to change what they say about
themselves? To do so in a true spirit of the love of God would be to “imitate” God. And the
reason He told us to imitate Him? So we could achieve the same results! WOW! That’s strong!
